There is no mildew smell. This is a good working Heathkit ad stereo-4 decoder 4 channel surround sound. This is an electro-voice model EVX-4 made by the Heathkit company.

This unit connects to your stereo receiver or amplifier and develops a rear channel signal connect second speakers for surround sound.

Also included are 3 sets of rca stereo patch cords and a print out the installation operation pages from manual. This item looks much better than the photos from my old digital camera would indicate.
