It is a very capable and enjoyable machine to use.

In a cabinet with other equipment, these flaws are invisible. I will answer them as quickly and as accurately as I can.

Prior to listing it, I tore it apart again, cleaned all of the belts and belt contact surfaces, de magnetized the transport, set the base capstan drive motor speed and lubricated all points indicated by the Pioneer factory service manual. It has had very little run time since I bought it. The performance specifications for playback and record are close enough as not to matter and they are indistinguishable from each other on a playback comparison of the same material. There are some significant differences, specifically the lack of auto bale, no real time tape remaining indication, and a few less segments in the fluorescing metering.

I do guarantee it to be in the condition as described. The front transparent transport cover is removable to allow access to the heads, capstans and pinch rollers for cleaning. The face of this machine is flawless.

There is some scuffing and scratches on the top of the case, probably due to having other equipment stacked on it over the years before I acquired it.

I haven seen another one for sale since I bought this one. I have used it off and on as a component for a secondary system that I have in my study. These machines are fairly rare, mainly I guess because not as many of the 7 were manufactured as the 9x. I tore the transport apart four years ago and re belted it.

All other functions are the same, auto tape loading, auto tape monitor, auto tape type sensing, and music search.

All functions operate smoothly, quietly and correctly.
