It is a passive system that adds two more rear channels to stereo front and center. The theater sound will fill up a room better, but fronts still be more power sounding, as rear speakers are lower sounding filling, or you can just use front two on stereo setting. Some songs will sound great and be OK. It has a broken left front speaker plastic wire connector, but you can use finger nail to push down and connect see pic.

This is used to covert a vintage 2 channel stereo receiver not tube add set of rear speakers and sort become quad or surround sound. For sale: a vintage Dynaco QD-1, series 2, five channel home theater system. It is hooked up to the two stereo speaker outputs of and has four for speakers. The circuit consists of a rear speaker rheostat and two resistors switch to allow channel operation or four.

I used it on a sans 7070 until found real vintage quad receiver. Works as it should.
