With its timeless design, superior sound quality, and versatile functionality, the RMT-222 is a must-have for audiophiles, collectors, and anyone who appreciates the unique character of vintage electronics.

The NEC Nippon Electric RMT-222 is a vintage tape player/recorder that has gained popularity among audiophiles and collectors due to its high-fidelity sound quality. Here are some pros and cons of buying this vintage tape deck:

Pros:

1. Superior sound quality: The RMT-222 is known for its rich, warm, and clear sound. It is particularly popular among those who prefer the sound of analog tapes over digital formats.

2. Build quality: The RMT-222 is a well-built machine with a solid construction. Its durable design ensures that it can withstand regular use.

3. Versatility: The RMT-222 can be used as both a tape player and a recorder. This makes it a versatile device that can be used for various purposes, such as recording music or making backup copies of precious recordings.

4. Retro appeal: The RMT-222 has a vintage design that can add character to any audio setup. Its retro look can be an attractive addition to a home or studio.

Cons:

1. Maintenance: Vintage tape decks like the RMT-222 require regular maintenance to keep them in good working order. This can be time-consuming and expensive.

2. Compatibility: The RMT-222 uses obsolete tape formats, such as Type II and Type IV tapes. These tapes can be difficult to find, and they can be expensive when available.

3. Limited features: The RMT-222 is a basic tape deck that lacks some modern features, such as equalization controls, Dolby noise reduction, or a headphone jack.

4. Noise: Vintage tape decks, including the RMT-222, can produce some level of background noise. This can be distracting for some listeners, especially those who are used to the low noise levels of modern digital equipment.

Conclusion:

The NEC Nippon Electric RMT-222 is a high-quality vintage tape player/recorder that offers superior sound quality and a retro appeal. However, it requires regular maintenance, uses obsolete tape formats, and lacks some modern features. Ultimately, the decision to buy the RMT-222 depends on your personal preferences and priorities. If you value the warm, rich sound of analog tapes and are willing to deal with the maintenance and compatibility issues, then the RMT-222 may be the right choice for you. On the other hand, if you prefer modern equipment with advanced features and low noise levels, then you may want to consider other options.

Recommendation:

If you are interested in the NEC Nippon Electric RMT-222, I would recommend doing thorough research on its specifications, compatibility, and maintenance requirements before making a purchase. You may also want to consider purchasing the tape deck from a reputable dealer or seller who can provide reliable information and support. Additionally, if you are new to vintage tape decks, it may be worth investing in a good-quality external microphone and a set of high-quality Type II or Type IV tapes to get the best possible sound quality.

Details:

Everything appears to be clean working and in great shape. This was purchasing the largest state sale and unfortunately I don't know very much about it but could not find any information other than basic on internet. The adapter has a 9 volt battery connector that is connected directly to the connection inside radio but it does not have compartment. It does play but it stops and starts.

This is being sold as for parts or repair. All three of these pieces are made in Japan. This is a very extremely hard item to find and I am unsure whether or not it was even purchase in the USA might have been brought over.
