Review ELECTROMUSE Starlet A55 Guitar Amplifier Vintage Working Updated

The Electromuse Starlet A55 Guitar Amplifier, a 2021 update of the iconic 1947 model, is a testament to timeless design and modern innovation. This versatile amplifier boasts a vintage aesthetic, with its retro-inspired cabinet and metallic accents, while incorporating state-of-the-art technology to deliver an exceptional sound experience.

The Starlet A55 features a 5-watt Class A tube amplifier, housing a single 12AX7 preamp tube and a single 6V6 power tube. The preamp tube provides a warm, rich tone that is perfect for a variety of music genres, while the power tube ensures a clean and powerful output. The amplifier's gain structure allows for a wide range of dynamics, from subtle and nuanced to crunchy and overdriven, providing musicians with the versatility they need to express their creativity.

The amp's 8-inch custom-designed speaker delivers a full and balanced sound, with a frequency response that extends from the low end to the highs. The speaker is housed in a closed-back cabinet, which not only enhances its sound quality but also helps to reduce unwanted feedback and maintain the amp's portability.

The Electromuse Starlet A55 Guitar Amplifier is equipped with a single input jack, a volume control knob, and a tone control knob. The volume control allows you to adjust the overall output level of the amp, while the tone control allows you to shape the sound by rolling off the high frequencies. The amp also has a built-in effects loop, which allows you to connect external effects pedals and processors to further expand your sound possibilities.

The Starlet A55 is a compact and lightweight amplifier, making it ideal for live performances, studio recording sessions, and practice sessions at home. Despite its small size, the amp is capable of delivering a big and powerful sound, making it a great choice for musicians who value both portability and tone quality.

In conclusion, the Electromuse Starlet A55 Guitar Amplifier is a remarkable blend of vintage aesthetics and modern technology. Its warm, rich tone, versatile gain structure, and custom-designed speaker make it a great choice for guitarists of all levels, while its compact size and built-in effects loop make it a practical and flexible option for musicians on the go.

The Electromuse Starlet A55 Guitar Amplifier, a 1947 reissue, is a vintage-style amplifier that has gained popularity among guitarists. Let's explore its pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.

Pros:

1. Authentic vintage tone: The Starlet A55 delivers a classic, warm, and rich sound, making it an excellent choice for those who seek the traditional tones of the '40s and '50s.

2. Tube-driven sound: The use of two 6V6 tubes in the power section and two 12AX7 tubes in the preamp section ensures a tube-driven sound, which is often preferred for its warmth and natural compression.

3. Built-in reverb: The built-in spring reverb adds a spacious and ambient sound to your playing, making it ideal for various music styles, such as blues, jazz, and country.

4. Affordable price: Compared to other vintage-style amplifiers, the Electromuse Starlet A55 is relatively affordable, making it an attractive option for guitarists on a budget.

Cons:

1. Limited power output: With a maximum power output of 12 watts, the Starlet A55 may not be suitable for larger venues or high-volume situations.

2. Limited tone-shaping options: While the Starlet A55 has a basic two-knob EQ (bass and treble), it lacks more advanced tone-shaping options, such as a mid-control or a presence switch.

3. Limited headroom: Due to its lower power output and tube-driven design, the Starlet A55 may not handle high input levels or distortion very well, which may limit its versatility for certain playing styles or genres.

In conclusion, the Electromuse Starlet A55 Guitar Amplifier is an excellent choice for those seeking a vintage-sounding amplifier with a classic tube-driven tone and built-in reverb. Its affordability makes it an attractive option for guitarists on a budget. However, its limited power output, headroom, and tone-shaping options may limit its versatility for some players, particularly in high-volume situations. Ultimately, the Starlet A55 may best suit guitarists who prioritize its warm vintage tone and retro aesthetics over modern features and versatility.

Details:

The use of that type output tube is quite rare in amps this size. Husky transformer power supply and two permanent magnet speakers. It shows that the 6ag7 has highest mutual conductance a measurement of gain or amplification tube any listed. The white printing on control panel is still mostly visible.

There is also noise from my hands rubbing on the outside of camera during panning around amp. The paper covering is worn in many places, but has been preserved so as not to lose original printing. Weight without packing materials: 9 lb no rattles or distortion. The stereo headphone jack is connected to a splutter cable and plugged into two inputs.

The grill cloth appears to be original, and is made of heavy, woven material, possibly with metal reinforcement, in good condition. The tubes may be originals, but this is unknown. Do not remove the chassis from case and touch any electrical components.

Power output of 5 watts sufficient for most purposes. The tubes get very hot when in use. The rear mesh over vents in lower panel is original and has been regaled into place.

Sloping control panel for easy access to controls. That appears to be an advantage in the performance of this amp. There is a power on off toggle switch. We hate to let this vintage go, but it is time someone else care for and enjoy the next half century or so.

It is not dented in. Note: here to hear this amplifier. Plastic carrying handle. The power transformer runs only slightly warm during operation.

There are places where the paper has become laminated from wood en case, but some of these in a panel and would be difficult to repair without causing more damage. Do not touch the tubes while in use or afterward. Dynamic speaker.

One of the speakers round is original and marked 9. The case has original feet. From the 1946 or 1947 magazine ad for starlet a55 reads: model new, compact amplifier musical instruments, string pickups and microphones.

The two inputs are designed to take guitars or other musical instruments, a instrument and microphone. Two inputs and volume control. The covering is by no means perfect, but it should be considered to presentable, with starlet four shooting star logo and stripes around speakers.

That probably indicates 1946 as the date of its manufacture. This particular one was rescued many years ago and preserved in our home. There are two phone jack inputs and one volume control controlling both. Audio cables are not included.

The handle is original plastic, in good condition. This unit, like all tube-containing equipment, has high voltage under the chassis. The replacement is made of expanded steel mesh, painted black.

3 oz dimensions without handle: 13 high by 11 wide 6 deep it is not known whether the performs to specs did when new tube complement an 84 6z4 rectifier, a 6sj7 preamps, and 6ag7 output. The chassis control panel has been cleaned with automotive polish to help preserve its current appearance. Tube complement: 84 6z4 rectifier, 6sj7 pre amplifier, 6ag7 output.

The fidelity of keyboard is not good, and recording camera an inexpensive point-and-shoot with a tiny microphone covered cabinet. By the way, if you factor in inflation since 1947, price of this would be 670 today.

The video of shows it connected to an inexpensive Casio CT-720 keyboard playing a demo tune. The upper cover above chassis that provides ventilation for tubes is not original. There appear not to be any other schematics available online for this fairly rare amp. The screws that hold back panels and chassis in place are original.

All of the capacitors have just been replaced with new modern units, resistors checked for value, a grounding line cord has installed, and fuse added under chassis improved safety. The other speaker is a long-ago replacement of approximately same size, but having different appearance.

The lower panel behind speakers is original cardboard covered with matching paper like rest of case. The chassis control panel has light rust in many places on top, as do most starlet amps of this vintage. The bottom side of chassis where wiring and components are is mostly clean rust. These areas are mostly still flat and noticeable to the touch, but not very visible.

From a smoke-free, pet-free home. 3 tubes equal to 4. The actual gain or output of this has not been measured, but it sounds plenty loud for a small unit with 3/4 speakers like one.
