Bought this unit two years ago. Tested with both normal and type ii tapes. Did not replace. Have not recapped as Tandberg had a rigorous test requirement for each component installed.
During my obsession with cassette decks. Cleaned heads and capstans. These units have a lot of headphone volume. Slider controls are working OK with little or no noise.
The capstan motor would not turn the belt. The capstan belt was in good shape. After making the azimuth adjustment, the tapes sounded identical to the cd source.
Found that the start capacitor was bad, replaced the cap. Had to replace the wood en end caps as one had cracked during shipping.
