I am including a copy of the service manual with all the exploded views, and as far as I can tell the culprit is the idler wheel not properly engaging with the play capstan. It has a playback problem. All functions work great, ff, rev, stop, pause, timer, rec, eject. The pots have been dioxide and lubed, the buttons and inside mechanism have been cleaned and lubed, both heads and pinch roller have been cleaned and demagnetized.
You are looking at a beautiful but problematic Technics rs 630t cassette deck. So I am listing it as a parts or restore unit.
All three belts were replaced with new model appropriate units. There are two lamps that illuminated the tape well, and a couple of mirrors that reflect the image of the tape so as to monitor the playback progress. It is clean inside and out.
Both meters work, as do all lamps.
Very ingenious. When the play button is engaged the tape wont turn. This may be just a simple adjustment, but it is not one I am willing to get into simply because I don't have time given the level of dis assembly necessary.
I would rate it 8/9 out of 10.
The unit is in excellent cosmetic condition save for a small chip in the veneer on the bottom front right side panel and some minor scuffs. When the eject button is pressed the tape simply pops up and slides down towards the edge of the tape well but does not fall out.
